The meeting was called to order by President Flora L at 6:18 pm.
Old Business:
The meeting minutes from the last campout at Lake Cachuma in June were approved.
New Business:
Carol M thanked everyone in attendance for being paid up and current.
Carol went over the voting results that was conducted by email earlier this year and sent to all club members. By majority vote of the club members responding it was decided to enact the following to build up the club's coffers:
1) an increase of annual club dues to $35 effective June 2019 (increase of $5)
2) a $5 per guest charge for dinner only (not breakfast) beginning January 2020
3) 60 day advanced notice of cancellation on campout effective immediately
4) 60 day advanced paid commitment on future campouts members are interested in attending effective immediately
Carol asked members to pay attention to her monthly Weakender Campout Status that is emailed to all members. She recently added a new column "Payment or Cancellation Due By" located under "Notes, Cost Per Xtra Night" which is located under "Amount ($) For Weekend". It is the members' responsibility to make timely decisions and communicate this with Carol.
Carol mentioned our next campout is Golden Shores in Long Beach, October 4 & 5. Then we'll be at Flying Flags in Buellton November 1 & 2. We have 15 sites reserved. She is not sure which area we will be camped at. In December 6 & 7 we'll be at Rancho Jurupa Park, Cottonwood Campsite in Riverside.
Carol stated there is a date correction on the March 2020 campout in Bakersfield. Dates are 3/20 & 21, not 3/22.
Carol suggested consideration for future campouts; El Capitan in February 2020 and Lake Cachuma in June 2020. Is this where the majority of members would like to return? This will be addressed again in November when more members will be in attendance.
George S brought up the idea again of camping mid-week because it is cheaper, easier to make a reservation and less hassle with heavy traffic. There was a discussion about some members not being able to attend mid-week campouts because of work.
Les H suggested opening up to new camping location ideas. Martine G agreed with Les, there are places the club returns to each year, many of them that are nice. Adding new locations would be worth investigating.
Carol agreed that this is a good idea and she encouraged club members that have a suggestion to please investigate details and present to the club for future consideration. She would appreciate any suggestions and help in this area.
George S brought up Pismo Beach and stated it has become difficult securing a campground we can get into as a club and that members like. He suggested the possibility of attempting to return there in August, possibly Pismo Sands with everyone making their own reservations under their own name or the possibility of staying at the State Park in Oceano, Morrow Dunes or Baywood.
Carol said she would look into campsites in Morrow Bay.
George S mentioned the possibility of San Simeon State Park. There are no hooks up there though, dry camping.
Linda N mentioned there is a State Park out of Questa, near a college that she will look into for the club.
Martine G said that as she understood it we have not returned to Ventura Ranch KOA because that location has become too expensive. She said when comparing with locations like Flying Flags or Golden Shores the charges are about same rate or other sites charge more. George S mentioned that we as a club were treated better by the previous campground owners there. Carol M said that we currently do not have reservations anywhere in February 2020. She will look into the possibility of Ventura Ranch KOA. Tapo Canyon in Simi Valley was mentioned as a possibility however they do not have a meeting room there.
Carol M said she will look into Passport America for mid-week cheaper rates at places like Pachenga for 2021.
Linda N mentioned Foster Park in Ojai. She will look into and advise Carol M.
Flora L announced that new officers will be elected in November at Flying Flags. She said that she has served as President for 2 years and is ready to step down and have someone else take over the position.
Carol M mentioned the email about Jim & Kathy Carr leaving the group, that she and many others appreciated hearing from them advising the group of their decision and how they will be missed. We all wish them well.
There are some members that have not been heard from in a few years. Carol suggested that anyone who has not paid dues or made contact with the club will be dismissed from the club.
Meeting adjourned at 6:45 pm.
